We record first-person cleaning footage to help train the next generation of household robots. That data is valuable enough for us to offer cleaning services free of charge for a limited time.

We anonymize the footage, process it, and license it for AI and robotics training. Processing includes sharing the footage with annotators who help us prepare the data. It is never shared publicly and is never used for advertising.

Yes, your privacy is fully protected. Names, faces, or other personal information is automatically anonymized, with any sensitive details blurred before it's ever used. The headset is designed to capture a first-person view focused on the cleaner's hands and the task being performed. We blur all personally identifiable information from screens and ID cards, to pieces of paper and cell phones to help protect both you and your home.

Cleaners are independent cleaning professionals vetted by our partners. They are not employees of shift — shift is a technology platform that connects you with independent professionals, not a cleaning company, employer, or staffing agency.

You just need to be there to greet the cleaners, explain what you would like cleaned, and give permission for recording during the appointment. If you have specific cleaning preferences, we recommend providing your own cleaning products and equipment.

No. The service is free. We only require payment information in case you are not present when the cleaners arrive or you refuse service after they have arrived.

That is completely fine. In fact, more challenging cleaning environments can be especially useful. That said, cleaners may decline any specific task they are not comfortable performing.

Yes. You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment at no charge. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, or you aren't there to let the cleaners in, you may be charged.
